5. Michigan Virtual Online Summer School Classes

Michigan Virtual Online Summer School 2010 - Registration begins 3/29/2010

Michigan Virtual School is a non-profit organization offering more than 200 on-line courses and six different foreign languages.  Most are high school level classes and meet the Michigan Merit Curriculum Standards.  All classes are taught by a Michigan certified on-line teacher.  Please visit the website for a complete listing of courses.  www.mivhs.org  The help desk phone # is (888) 889-2840 and is open seven days a week.

The cost is $270 for the first class and $240 for an additional class for the same person.  Register for classes (with your counselors approval & signature) at Hartland Community Education in the HESSC building (former high school) on M-59.  Full payment is due at time of registration and is not refundable for any reason.

These classes are for those students who are interested in getting credit during the summer in an accelerated fashion to allow their scheduling to be open for other classes during the school year or for remediation.

Students will need reliable access to the internet and be comfortable navigating web-sites in order to be successful in their MVHS courses.  Students may be required to purchase books or other materials like a microphone for their course, although MOST classes utilize e-texts which are provided with the course.  Students should plan to spend 10-20 hours per week working on their summer course.  The summer courses cover the same amount of material as is covered in a full semester, but it is in a condensed form so you should have this time commitment in mind when you sign up.

Grades:  The students get a certificate/letter of completion from MVHS.  The mentor has access to their progress the entire time the student is in the course.  Final grades will be emailed to the student and parent.  Your home school will also be sent notification.
