  - Introductory Color Guard

Introductory Color Guard

Instructors: Lauren Crowder and Alex Grover

This beginner-level class introduces students to the fundamentals of spinning wooden "rifles" in the color guard activity. Participants will learn positions, handspins, tosses, and basic choreography designed to build coordination, strength, and performance confidence. No prior experience is necessary - just a willingness to learn, move, and have fun! Perfect for new members or anyone curious about the exciting world of color guard.

Alex Grover is originally from Rhode Island, where his performance background in the marching arts started. He has marched with The Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps (2016 and 2017), Alter Ego World Class winter guard (2016-2018), and Blessed Sacrament World Class winter guard (2019-2020). In addition to his performance experience, Alex has taught several high school marching band and color guard programs throughout New England, including the nationally recognized Dartmouth High School Marching Band & Color Guard. Alex is currently the Associate Director of MFlags through the Michigan Marching Band and the Associate Director of the Michigan Winter Ensemble.

Lauren Crowder is from Novi, Michigan and has been a part of the color guard activity since 2010. She performed as a member of the Novi High School color and winter guard programs, a flag rank leader in the Michigan Marching Band, and served as captain and rifle captain for the Michigan Winter Ensemble. Currently, she is the color guard director at Brighton High School and a staff member/choreographer for the Michigan Winter Ensemble and Hartland High School programs.
